Proposed Construction: The proposed project, in the City of Columbus, consists of the replacement of the existing Viaduct on US Highway 30/81 over the Union Pacific Railroad, and the reconstruction of the approaches to the viaduct between 8th Street to the south and 15th Street to the north.
Schedule: A September 4, 2008 letting date is expected. The estimated starting and completion dates for this project are October 6, 2008 and May 29, 2010.
Traffic Flow/Phasing: It is estimated traffic will not be impacted by the project from October 6, 2008 to February 2, 2009. It is further estimated the existing viaduct will be closed between 8th Street and 13th Street from February 2, 2009 to December 5, 2009. Traffic will be detoured during this closure. The designated detour route for east west through traffic will be Highways US-81, N-64, and N-15 and for north south through traffic, Highways N-92, N-39, and N-22. A local detour will be designated by the City of Columbus. The north end of this project, 13th Street to 15th Street will be constructed under traffic, with one lane of travel in each direction maintained. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during construction. Starting on December 5, 2009, it is estimated the new viaduct and roadway will be open to 4-lane traffic.
Lighting/Signal/Signage: Lighting and signals will be upgraded as a part of this project.
Additional ROW and construction easements will be required throughout the project.
Estimated Cost: $13.70 Million total project cost, City of Columbus to share $2.74 Million.
